Features
The SportDog TEK 2.0’s state of the art features let you track your dog in 10-mile radius, with unlimited lifetime mapping updates to ensure accuracy after every use. It is Bluetooth compatible, has a 863 – 870 MHz frequency band and 1:120,000 topo maps already pre-loaded into the device.
The large 10 mile range is made possible by frequency hopping technology which prevents interference. Another cool feature of this product is the ability to receive voice updates from the handheld receiver, so you do not even have to look at the handheld to know where exactly your dogs are.
Product Comparisons
The SportDog TEK 2.0 is an upgraded version of SportDog TEK 1.0, which only let you track up to 12 dogs and had a 7-mile range. SportDog TEK 2.0, proves that it is at the top of the list. It is even packed with better features than one of its competitors, the Garmin Astro 430. TEK 2.0 lets you track up to 21 dogs, while Astro 430 lets you track up to 20. The range is also higher with TEK 2.0 going up to 10 miles while Astro 430 falls short at 9. TEK 2.0 includes DRYTEK waterproof technology and is submersible up to 25 feet, while Garmin Astro 430, on the other hand, is only water resistant to IPX7; this signifies that it can tolerate incidental exposure to water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. On Amazon, a new Garmin Astro 430 is cheaper than TEK 2.0, probably because it is a bit less advanced. If you’re specifically looking for a 10-mile range than TEK 2.0 is the better choice. If a 9-mile range and a 20 dog tracking ability satisfies your current needs then you may want to go with Garmin Astro 340 because it is the cheaper option.
